I was truly impressed by my journey into the Finnish forests!
Of course, the 6–7% returns on forestry investments in Scandinavia and the focus on sustainable management are appealing. But what truly stood out to me was the professionalism of the Scandinavian “forest ecosystem.” Local companies like Metsä Group – highly advanced and internationally active – demonstrate the added value of efficiently managed forest areas and why strategic partnerships with managers like United Bankers make so much sense.

It was eye-opening to witness the sustainable production of grease-resistant paper, which has the potential to significantly reduce plastic usage in the long term.

There was also an emotional aspect that I only truly grasped during my field trip to Finland. Here are a few impressions from a United Bankers forest site near Jyväskylä, about four hours north of Helsinki:

  • Walking on naturally preserved moss-covered ground that feels like a soft carpet, and experiencing the silence of the forest, was deeply calming and gave me much to reflect on. The growth cycle of Scandinavian trees ranges from 40 to 50 years…
  • Birch, spruce, and pine are professionally cultivated in so-called industrial forests and – unlike in Germany – are not viewed negatively.
  • Forest areas are managed with a generational mindset, with a strong focus on the long-term preservation of forests, biodiversity, and efficient replanting of trees.

A heartfelt thank you to United Bankers for an inspiring trip through the Finnish forest! And to the Timber Management Team – thank you for your dedication to professional forestry investment and your deep commitment to preserving the forest for future generations. Your passion was evident throughout these 48 hours.

I can wholeheartedly recommend an investment in this region, as well as in the forests of the three Baltic states through one of UB’s funds. For more information, feel free to contact us.
